Software Safety Engineers (m/f/d) - hybrid and on-site work

The Safety Team at Kopernikus Automotive is in need for talented people who would love to join us as Software Safety Engineers.

We are a startup that develops AI-based solutions for autonomous driving and parking. We already successfully completed several projects at parking garages, factories and exhibitions and are now entering our next development phase aiming for full compliance to safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448, etc. This year we presented our product at the 2022 CES in Las Vegas, see for example this link. We have two research facilities where we develop our solutions, one in Leipzig and one in Berlin. While close collaboration with our development teams is needed, remote work is possible.

We are looking for people that help us ensure functional safety of our products and that are willing to bring their ideas to the table in order to achieve something the entire automotive industry is currently looking for – autonomous driving level 4 based on artificial intelligence (AI).

Our Safety Team is responsible for:

  • Rules and processes for Functional Safety and how they will be applied within the company

  • Staff qualification – both our own and the safety qualification of our SW development teams

  • Building up a compliant and complete safety case and argumentation for our entire systems, but also specifically for our Perception

  • Safety Management and Safety Engineering for various projects in the field of autonomous driving and parking

  • In-depth analysis of the existing solutions and deriving safety mechanisms that build high confidence in the safety of our product

While we are aiming for an experienced SW Safety engineer, do not be discouraged if you are just starting out as a junior engineer. What is most important for us is willingness to learn and to "own“ problems to the point of not giving up on finding a way forward.

Your profile:

  • You have a BS or MS within the field of STEM, ideally related to SW development, Computer Science or Machine Learning.

  • You ideally have several years of experience as System Safety Engineer or SW Safety Engineer in the automotive industry.

  • You are familiar with the methods applied in functional safety such as HARA, FMEA or FTA.

  • You have a quick understanding of how a system works and are willing to dig into our solutions and analyze every aspect of them for its relevance for and impact on functional safety.

  • You do not shy away from challenges and like to get creative, finding the optimal solution for a problem, both drawing on your experience and trying to find new approaches.

  • You work in a self-organized and highly structured way that complies with the needs of safety standards such as ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (among others).

  • You are fluent in English and know your way around the German language. While our company language is English, you might need to communicate with project partners in German.

What we offer:

  • Permanent contract starting immediately.

  • Competitive salary and plenty of vacation days.

  • Continuing education: Courses to further your understanding of ML / CV  / FuSa as well as German language courses and support in acquiring your German driver’s license.

  • Free sports membership across Germany.

  • Free Bahn Card which also can be used for your private travels.

  • Great office space in Berlin, (partial) remote work is currently possible.

  • Interesting projects in autonomous driving while working hand in hand with big car manufacturers.

  • Work in a merit-based organization with low hierarchies and a high degree of individual responsibility.

  • Feeling that your work is very important. Within our team every member has a big influence on the final product.

  • Extremely nice and friendly team that is always motivated to help.
